I hate to sound repetitive but the fishing has been Awesome!!!! Spawning and schooling has been the pattern. The fish are now biting all over the lake.
West side has had some great schooling action on rattle traps and top water. Any where that you can find fairly clear water on the outside grass lines there are fish. I have been concentrating in the clear water and looking for holes in the grass. Beds everywhere!!!.
The south-end of the lake has started producing great number of fish with a occasional big fish. Top water and spinner bait have been a great choice for locating the fish. Pitching the grass clumps is a good way to catch the bigger fish.
Flipping the hyacinth mats will produce your biggest fish now since we are between the moon phase now. Flip with a 1oz weight and a black/blue craw with spider wire 10/40.
The north-end has slowed up a little but we have been still catching fish out of the ell grass. Just not a lot. Shallow running rogues have been a good lure to throw when you can.
Shiner fishing (live bait) is real hot now. We have been having incredible action with huge top water strikes. 30-50 strikes is very common. We have been catching a lot of fish every day in the 5-9 pound range.
So plan your trip to the Big ‘O’ as soon as you can. And please feel free to call or e-mail any time if you have any questions about fishing on Lake Okeechobee.
Bass Wishes,
Scott R. Martin
